Retrofit
“We had a terrible case. I put NoUVIR in it. I took this sow’s ear and turned it into a silk purse. It looks spectacular.”

Retrofitting a case, a set of cases or a gallery is not hard. It just takes planning. - Museum Staff Member
But replacing LEDs, halogen or fluorescent lighting with fiber optic lighting will have a big impact. Light is how most objects communicate. Better light means you “see” more. You enjoy more.
A university museum was surprised. The museum converted to NoUVIR to preserve its natural history collection.
But the prevailing thought was that the exhibits would continue to look old, because the cases “were tired” and
the linings would need to be changed next year after the lighting was changed. But things looked great.
It wasn’t just the objects. The old case linings suddenly showed their real color. The project to re-line the cases was scratched as not needed.
An exhibit builder built a case exactly to the museum’s specifications. But slowly over the months, yes, months, the staff discovered the new case was slowly “cooking” their very valuable artifact. Fiber optic lighting was retrofitted. No UV. No IR. Zero heat. Problem solved.
Using NoUVIR was so successful, the museum tackled their other cases. Most were antique cases. The approach was setting foam core “tops” onto the glass tops with the luminaires and fiber already installed on the foam core. Every year the museum did another gallery. But without closing a single day.
Today the museum has a completely different look. The artifacts have never looked better. But the cases and galleries are still antique. And the museum has built only a few new cases, but all for new artifacts for visitors to discover. Of course, the new cases are also lit with NoUVIR.
Retrofitting Furniture
Furniture comes in a wide variety of styles, quality and finishes. Look for pieces with crown molding tops or parapets.
Or look for furniture that is tall and deep (do not see the top of the case).
Or look for styles with 1” or wider mullions or 1” wide frames holding the glass in the cabinet doors.
Built-ins can be lit too. Have a retrofit project? Take photographs and e-mail them with a description of your needs to NoVUIR.
“You are amazing as always. I feel truly fortunate to be working with you and grateful for all your time and sharing of your knowledge.” - Memorabilia Curator
Have a broken fiber optic system? We have retrofitted several different competitor’s systems to get lights turned back on with better performance.
